Here are 5 simple changes that the Provincial Government could do tomorrow to fix politics in BC.

Here are 5 things that will revolutionize politics in BC for good:

#1) Make the budget completely public down to the last tax dollar

Let every British Columbian see where every tax dollar comes from and where every tax dollar

goes. Right down to the last tax dollar, all of this will be available on the internet. If you want to

know how much money Golden Ears Provincial Park spent on toilet paper for the outhouses, you

should be able to find it out in less than 5 minutes online.

#2) Make all government contracts and actions completely public for everyone to see.

Let every British Columbian see everything which the government has agreed to. Before signing

any major contracts the terms and conditions will be made public and available to scrutinize.

If the government signs a contract with a corporation for the water rights to a river in your

province, you deserve to see what is in that contract, and who signed it. If a union is negotiating

with the government, you should be able to see exactly what the contract discussions are.

#3) Give out incentives for uncovering government waste.

Actively encourage all British Columbians to help find ways in which the government can

save money. Each year offer a cash reward for the suggestion that saved the government the

most money while still providing the same or a better quality and level of service to British

Columbians.

#4) Make all votes in the legislature free votes and completely public.

Allow MLA’s to represent their constituencies and the people of the province and not their

political parties or special interest groups. End the idea of legislation failing equaling a vote of

non-confidence. Let the ideas fail, get redrawn, and get re-proposed. If the MLA’s don’t have

confidence in the Premier there should be a vote held specifically for that.

#5) Make campaign promises legally binding.

With all of the government information being public there is no reason why a political party

shouldn’t be able to live up to their campaign promises. So if a party promises to cut taxes by a

certain date and they don’t do it, it will trigger an election.

Your Political Party of BC is dedicated to making BC better for all British Columbians by electing candidates and forming a government dedicated to true openness, and accountability. A YPP government is committed to listening to regular British Columbians about what they would like to see done with their province and how the government can help to make BC a better place for all British Columbians.

A message from YPP’s Leader:

“For too long voting in BC has been about choosing between the lesser of two evils. Both parties know that no matter what they do, no matter how badly they treat British Columbians, and how badly they manage BC, it will only be a matter of time before the get back into power.”

“It’s time that we put an end to this! It’s time to vote for a party you can believe in, a platform that doesn’t cater to special interests, and candidates that will listen to you.”

“This election join me and thousands of other British Columbians in saying, I want my province back!”

BC’s economy will thrive when you are able to keep more of your tax dollars.

- Every dollar you spend generates the economy far more than a dollar the government spends because of bureaucratic waste.

- Encouraging green technology business now will give BC an economic advantage as their products become more sought after around the world in the near future.

- Investment and development will be encouraged by: a favourable tax climate, inexpensive energy, necessary transportation infrastructure, low transportation costs, a high quality of life for BC residents, access to resources for sustainable business, recreational opportunities for BC residents, and BC’s beautiful natural surroundings.

- Traditional staples of BC’s economy, like forestry, fishing, agriculture and aquaculture need to be redeveloped in a sustainable and profitable way.

All legislation and government actions need to be economically, environmentally and socially sustainable in order to ensure they are cost effective, will not degrade the environment and will encourage behaviours that promote a healthy society.

Economically Sustainable means that fiscally the decisions the government is making make sense. The cost of the program is offset by the benefit that is provided to the province. With all government spending and government statistics made public it will be easy for British Columbians to see whether government programs are worth the cost and it will be hard for governments to justify programs which are not socially sustainable.

Environmentally Sustainable means that the government program or action does not negatively impact the environment in a way that is irreparable. Degradation to the environment in one area will need to be offset by an improvement in the environment in another area. All government programs will be given an environmental grade so that British Columbians can see the true cost of the programs the government is undertaking.

Socially Sustainable means that government legislation and actions encourage responsible behaviour, healthy living, the creation of community and culture, and the elimination of crime. The government can use positive and negative incentives in order to encourage these types of desirable behaviours.

It uses a shroud of secrecy to keep you in the dark about what they are doing. We need to change this so we can truly hold the government accountable for everything it does.

- Make the budget completely public down to the last tax dollar so that every taxpayer can see exactly where every dollar is being spent.

- Set up a website where all British Columbians can vote in non-binding referendums, provide input to the government, and ask questions that will be addressed in online and televised townhall meetings.

- Only hold free votes in the legislature so that MLA’s are able to represent their constituencies and the best interests of British Columbians without worrying about party discipline.

- Make all campaign promises legally binding, so that MLA’s who break campaign promises will lose their seats.

- Make it mandatory for all MLA’s to hold a public townhall style meeting at least once every 4 months in their constituency
